THE FEEL

Homes in this neighborhood can range from 100-year-old homes to newly designed housing developments.

HISTORY

The first settler in the area was Charley Conners, who built a log cabin in 1803. Both town were founded a few decades later; Crystal City (New Detroit at the time) as a dry city, and Festus not. (In fact, Festus was home to several saloons right across the border.) Legend has it that the name “Festus” was chosen by a church ceremony where a Bible was opened blindly and the first proper name encountered was that of Porcius Festus, the governor of Judea around 60 AD.

ACCESSIBILITY

Interstate 55 serves as the main entryway into to both cities. Fetus and Crystal City are also by Routes 61 and 67. To leave the cities entirely, there is Festus Memorial Airport.

CULTURE

A small-town atmosphere with traditional values, people who move to Festus and Crystal City are looking to start a family.

ENTERTAINMENT

A neighborhood of festivals and fairs, residents enjoy year round events like the Sunday Concert in the Park Series in the summer, Twin City Days in the Fall, and the Christmas parade in December.

The neighborhood has also witnessed tremendous commercial growth in recent years, bringing the conveniences of retail shopping and familiar restaurant chains to homeowners.

SCHOOLS

Festus and Crystal City has two public school districts, Festus and Crystal City. The neighborhood is also a short drive from Jefferson College.

PARKS & REC

Sunset Park | Contains three ball fields, a regulation baseball field with a grandstand, sand volleyball court, two handball courts, a double and single tennis court, and basketball court, as well as plenty of playground equipment.

Mill St. Park | Features a double tennis court and  basketball court. There is some playground equipment.

Billy Porter Memorial Park | Primarily used for weddings but does have a playground area.

 West City Park | Largest area park with a lake, two regulation baseball fields, two ball fields, three soccer fields, fitness equipment, a fitness course, and eight single covered picnic tables. All pavilions here have horseshoe pits.

The West City Sports Complex | Available for renting and holds approximately 104 people.

 Adams St. Park | Contains two small ball fields and a large field for kids to play in.

Fourth St. Park | Features two basketball courts and a playground area.
